Natural Cognac Leather Lounge Chair on a Metal Swivel Base
Designed in the early 1970s, the Wammes chair represents the experimental and sculptural phase of Dutch designer Gerard van den Berg. Created around the founding years of Montis, the model embodies the relaxed and informal spirit that defined 1970s interiors. Its organic silhouette and low inviting posture make it a true statement piece within any curated design collection.
The chair is executed in thick cognac leather that has developed a rich and even patina over time. The design is characterized by its high slender backrest and its generously folded seat and arm sections that appear almost pillow like. Visible stitched leather panels emphasize the construction while allowing the material to naturally shape itself around the filling. The swivel base in dark metal provides visual lightness and contrast to the voluminous upper body.
The leather shows beautiful age related character with natural creasing subtle tonal variation and visible traces of use. Small scratches and stains are present in the leather, consistent with the age and the character of this open natural leather. These marks contribute to the authenticity and warm appearance of the piece. The structure appears solid and the swivel function intact. The comfort is deep and lounge oriented offering a relaxed seating position rather than an upright posture.
