This vase is a textbook example of Brutalist design from the 1970s. The design is powerful and geometric, with a narrow neck that contrasts beautifully with the robust, rectangular body.
The vase is finished in a deep glossy red glaze (often referred to as 'onion blood' or Oxblood), combined with a thick, coarse black Fat Lava texture. The contrast between the smooth, bright color and the rough, volcanic lava makes this model one of the most sought-after pieces by Marei.
