Afra e Tobia Scarpa for B & B Italia. Bauhaus dining set from the seventies
Rare leather upholstered Dialogo Dessau chairs with cantilevered base combined with a sculptural rectangular marble dining table with rounded corners
This extremely rare dining set by Afra and Tobia Scarpa comes from the first owner and represents one of the most exceptional configurations ever available. The Dialogo Dessau chair is known for its architectural cantilevered structure but was almost exclusively produced in plastic. The fully leather upholstered version seen here is virtually unobtainable and stands as a high tier collector edition within the Scarpa oeuvre.
The Dialogo Dessau chair takes its name from the Bauhaus school in Dessau, a subtle homage to the birthplace of the modern cantilever typology. Its cantilevered structure clearly echoes the Bauhaus lineage of Mart Stam and Mies van der Rohe, while Scarpa adds a uniquely Italian sculptural softness and a rare tactile richness through the fully leather upholstered shell.
The rectangular dining table with rounded corners is crafted in soft beige to cream marble with a subtle natural veining pattern and gentle patina. The central cylindrical pedestal is wrapped in leather panels forming a sculptural patchwork appearance, a signature Scarpa detail that blends materiality, craftsmanship and modern monumentality. The proportions are harmonious and the combination of marble and leather gives the table a luxurious yet understated presence. At this moment it is the only known table in this configuration available on the market worldwide.
Together, the table and chairs showcasing Italian seventies design at its finest. Perfect for architectural interiors, high end residential spaces and collectors of iconic Italian design.
