A rare Italian postmodern coffee table dating to the 1980s, defined by its bold sculptural base and restrained geometric composition. The design balances architectural volume with visual lightness, characteristic of the more refined Italian postmodern movement of the period.
The stepped conical base is executed in black lacquered wood, composed of rhythmic circular tiers that gradually expand outward toward the floor. This stacked formation creates a strong sense of proportion and monumentality, while the smooth finish emphasizes the table’s graphic silhouette and sculptural presence.
Resting above the base, the circular glass top introduces transparency and contrast, allowing the architectural form beneath to remain fully visible. The interplay between solid black volume and floating glass creates a composition that feels both grounded and visually effortless.
