This rare Mid-Century studio ceramic jug is a design by the Dutch ceramist Joep Felder from Tegelen. The object, manufactured around 1950, stands out due to its characteristic design and the detailed relief of an anchor on the front, topped with a stopper in the shape of a mitre with a cross.
The jug is handcrafted from ceramic and finished with a subtly mottled, light blue and grey glaze that accentuates the texture of the material. The underside shows the unglazed red clay and is clearly signed 'Joep Felder', accompanied by an impressed mark. The stopper is fitted with a cork for a secure seal. The combination of maritime and religious symbolism gives this piece a unique historical context within Dutch ceramic history.
The object is in good condition commensurate with its age and use. The original finish and patina have been preserved, contributing to the authentic character of this jug. This collector's item comes into its own perfectly in a Mid-Century Modern or eclectic interior. It forms a special accent on a sideboard, in a display cabinet, or as part of a broader collection of Dutch studio ceramics.
