Product description
This rare Liberty sofa from the 1960s is a refined example of Dutch modernist design. Designed by Rob Parry for Gelderland, the sofa combines a slender stainless steel frame with warm wooden armrests and cleanly upholstered seat and back cushions.
The design is light and architectural, yet comfortable and inviting. The open construction gives the sofa an elegant, almost floating presence, while the restrained use of materials reflects the functional clarity characteristic of Dutch design from this period. Gentle ageing of the upholstery adds depth and authenticity, enhancing the sofa’s calm, timeless character. A balanced piece that works equally well as seating and as a sculptural element within an interior.
About the designer
Rob Parry (1925–2016) was one of the leading figures of Dutch modernism. His work is known for clarity, functional elegance, and carefully considered construction. His designs for Gelderland are widely regarded as icons of postwar Dutch furniture design and remain highly sought after by collectors.
Condition
Very good vintage condition, with minor age-appropriate wear. The upholstery shows gentle fading consistent with its age.
