For sale is an exceptional and very rare dining room set from the 1970s, consisting of an oval DS1 folding table, three matching DS3 chairs, and one DS4 chair (with armrests), based on the famous design by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
The set impresses with its elegant, distinctive design and high-quality craftsmanship. The table and chairs are made of black-stained, open-pore ash. The chairs feature delicate mother-of-pearl inlays in the backrests and hand-woven straw seats. One of the four chairs has armrests.
Thanks to its folding mechanism, the oval table is versatile and suitable for both smaller spaces and as a grand dining table with a distinctive presence.
Dimensions:
Table: 175 cm wide (open), 57 cm wide (closed), 122 cm deep, 76 cm high
Chairs: 75 x 50 x 45 cm
The set has been professionally cleaned and carefully restored. Overall, it is in good vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of wear.
The chairs and base are unfinished and in very good condition. Stability is excellent.
The tabletop has some nicks, stains, and slight warping, which create a characteristic, age-related patina. Two small areas on the tabletop have been repaired with black wood filler, resulting in a visually harmonious finish.
The overall condition was, of course, taken into account when determining the price.
This is a very rare design classic for lovers of high-quality vintage design, for collectors, or anyone looking for a special statement piece for their dining area.
Current research reveals only a handful of comparable items across Europe.
The set comes from the estate of a well-known German photographer.
I am happy to answer any questions. Serious and realistic offers are welcome. Inquiries about partial sales are possible, but the sale of the complete set is preferred.
