Uranium Ashtray K169
Item Description: Rare and exceptional modernist ashtray/trinket tray in heavy Bohemian crystal, official catalog model K169. This iconic piece was designed in 1968 by the renowned Czech designer Milan Metelák for the prestigious Sklárna Harrachov factory (golden age of the Skló Union glassmaking company, formerly Czechoslovakia). The object features a vibrant cherry-red core, encased in a thick layer of clear crystal adorned with the famous geometric controlled bubble (Bullicante) pattern. Unique lighting characteristics (dual reactivity): UV/Black Light: Presence of uranium in the outer glass composition (uranium). Under UV light (365nm or 395nm), the external structure glows with a spectacular neon green fluorescence. Direct white light: Under the effect of a flashlight or backlighting, the selenium/cadmium core literally ignites with an incandescent red-orange color.
