Large platter with incised floral thistle decoration in relief
Born from the imagination of French ceramicist Suzanne Dauliach (active in the 1970s and 80s), this unique piece captivates with its hand-incised floral decoration, evoking a stylized thistle or an artichoke flower.
The speckled glaze, oscillating between sandy beige and burnt ochre, creates a vibrant contrast with the bluish hues of the floral motif.
This piece, signed underneath, comes from her workshop at "La Bartavelle" in Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves, Savoie, during the 1970s, when she was most productive. Characterized by a very popular and rustic style, Suzanne Dauliach's works are all unique and similar in their speckled glaze, typical of the pyrite-like glazed stoneware of that era. Flowers, particularly thistles, are a recurring motif in the artist's work, often appearing as a signature element.
This large ceramic piece can be used as a dish, a trinket tray, or simply as a striking decorative piece.
