Corning Glass Works is a company with a rich history of innovation in glass and ceramic technology. The foundation for this product was laid in 1912, when Corning developed heat-resistant glass for railway lanterns to prevent them from cracking due to temperature fluctuations. In 1915, this glass was marketed to consumers under the brand name Pyrex, after a scientist at the company asked his wife to bake a cake in a glass lantern shade.
This specific coffee maker uses a technique called Flameware (introduced in 1936), specially designed to be used directly on a flame or stove without breaking.
