A devotional bust of the Virgin Mary, modeled as a Mater Dolorosa or Virgin of Solitude, executed in polychrome terracotta. The sculpture features a rigid, conical silhouette, designed to replicate the pyramidal form of traditional dressed effigies (imágenes de candelero) from the Spanish and Colonial periods. The figure is depicted with a pale complexion, downward gaze, and clasped hands. The dark mantle is adorned with molded five- and six-pointed stars, originally gilded, while the chest bears a relief cross overlaid with a floral or bow motif. The polychrome finish displays extensive, naturally occurring craquelure. Age-related wear and paint loss along the edges of the mantle, hands, and the integrated pedestal reveal the underlying reddish terracotta.
