The "Vanity Fair" leather armchair by Poltrona Frau is one of the most important designs in Italian furniture design and is still considered a symbol of luxurious craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With its characteristic, softly rounded shapes, striking armrests, and harmonious proportions, this armchair embodies the unmistakable aesthetic of Italian design classics while making a powerful statement in any room.
The example offered here comes in an expressive shade of red and is in very good condition. The high-quality leather shows only minimal patina and still possesses the elegant look and feel typical of Poltrona Frau. Traces of age and use are only subtle: On the back, there are slight signs of abrasion on a few leather parts, which are hardly noticeable in the overall picture. On the right outer side, there is also a small burn hole about the size of a pinhead (see detailed picture). These signs of use do not affect the appearance or comfort of the armchair and, rather, emphasize its authentic vintage patina.
The exceptional seating comfort is particularly noteworthy. The generous upholstery and the organically shaped seat shell create a pleasantly enveloping sitting experience, making the "Vanity Fair" not only an iconic design object but also an extremely comfortable lounge chair.
The design goes back to Renzo (Lorenzo) Frau, the founder of Poltrona Frau. The company was founded in Turin in 1912 and quickly became one of the most renowned addresses for exclusive leather processing and high-quality seating furniture. The "Vanity Fair" is based on the historic Model 904, which was created in the early 1930s and later gained international recognition under its current name.
