Product description
Wonderful ceramic tableware set from the Ateliers du Revernay, France, made around the 1960s. Currently, only twelve plates, each measuring 25 centimeters in diameter, are available. The leitmotif represented on each piece is the sea bream, rendered in a schematic relief. All are created using an artisanal technique, by hand, making each one unique. The honey color is emphasized by the final glaze from the double firing, which gives it shine and dynamism. This is a cheerful and highly original set. About Ateliers du Revernay… Around 1896, the company Utzschneider et Cie created an art workshop dedicated to producing artistic stoneware. This workshop is located in a place called Revernay, where the official residence of the director of the Digoin earthenware factory is located. The first productions were presented at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris. They were made using artisanal techniques, in small series, following the taste for the simplification of art and the rediscovery of nature that was in vogue at the time. After the First World War, production seemed to move more toward industrialization. The pieces were listed in the parent factory's production catalog. For reasons unknown—due to a lack of adaptation to new societal aspirations or the stifling demand for creators—production halted around 1930. At the end of the Second World War, taking advantage of or accompanying the movement of young creators from the pottery centers of southern France, the Revernay workshop was reopened. A very typical pottery was produced there. The pieces were then branded as Revernay SDV or Atelier d'Art du Revernay SDV. It seems this new life for the art studio will be brief, not reaching the 1970s.
