The coat rack shown is the Planta model, designed by Giancarlo Piretti in 1972 for Anonima Castelli, Italy. It is an iconic example of 1970s Italian industrial design, distinguished by its functional simplicity, modular construction, and sculptural appearance.
The coat rack is made entirely of dark brown ABS plastic, a material considered innovative and exceptionally versatile in the 1970s. The cylindrical column features six foldable hooks at the top, their organically curved shape reminiscent of plant branches—hence the name Planta. Two rings at the bottom serve as umbrella holders. The round base provides stability, while the glossy plastic finish creates an elegant, almost futuristic look.
Condition: The coat rack is in good, fully functional condition with a light, even patina. A few fine scratches and minimal signs of wear are visible but do not detract from its overall appearance. The surface has a beautiful, even sheen; all hooks and umbrella rings are sturdy and original.
