Vintage pine veneer table lamp by Hans-Agne Jakobsson, Sweden (1960s)
This beautiful pine veneer table lamp is an authentic work by Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009), one of Sweden’s most celebrated lighting designers. Trained as a carpenter and architect, Jakobsson developed a distinctive ability to sculpt light through natural materials — creating warm, atmospheric pieces that have become icons of Scandinavian mid-century modernism.
The lamp features a shade crafted from thin strips of pine veneer, meticulously arranged to filter light in a soft, even glow. When lit, the grain and warm tones of the wood come alive, casting a calm and inviting ambience. Each shade was handmade, making every piece slightly unique in shape and tone.
The design combines elegant simplicity with material honesty — the natural beauty of the pine taking center stage against a minimal, functional base. As with many of Jakobsson’s creations, the lamp blends functional design with a poetic understanding of light and shadow.
In very good vintage condition, showing minimal signs of wear consistent with age and material, this lamp remains a wonderful example of Hans-Agne Jakobsson’s masterful approach to lighting design. A timeless and highly collectible piece of Scandinavian craft and design history.
