Armchair chair / lounge chair by Pierre Jeanneret - also known as the "Easy Chair"
Very rare replica, almost 1 to 1 with the original design. exceptionally well executed. Hand made by craftsmen in Bali.
Pierre Jeanneret was a Swiss architect and designer, and a cousin and close associate of Le Corbusier. In the 1950s, he was asked to design, with Le Corbusier, the new city of Chandigarh in India - a modernist urban planning project commissioned by the Indian government after the country's independence.
Local production in India:
For this project, Jeanneret also designed furniture that matched the modernist architecture of Chandigarh. The best known of these are the "Easy Chair," office chairs, sofas, and cabinets.
These pieces of furniture were not manufactured in Europe, but made locally in India, often by local craftsmen in and around Punjab. They used materials such as teak or rosewood and wicker seats and backs, techniques well suited to the craft traditions of the region.
