The Boomerang 64 lamp by Fase is an iconic mid-20th-century model that represents the best of Spanish industrial design.
Created by Luis Pérez de la Oliva in 1964, this piece is distinguished by its curved arm, which gives it its name, "Boomerang." The striking S-shaped metal arm supports a rotating, UFO-style shade finished in dark gray enamel, combined with a round white plastic diffuser that provides a warm, ambient light.
The heavy circular base ensures stability and allows the entire lamp to rotate, showcasing the advanced engineering that made Fase lamps legendary.
Fase was founded in Madrid that same year by entrepreneur Pedro García Martín and designer Luis Pérez de la Oliva. The Boomerang 64 was one of their first successes and quickly became a symbol of mid-century Spanish design. What began as a small business selling lamps in Madrid's street markets grew into one of the most successful industrial design companies of the 1970s, with a factory in Torrejón de Ardoz that exported to more than 32 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and throughout Europe.
Luis Pérez de la Oliva was Fase's most prolific designer, responsible for the majority of the company's lamp models during the 1960s and 70s. His innovative approach fused sculptural metal forms with functional lighting solutions, incorporating spherical joints for unprecedented adjustability. Fase lamps achieved international acclaim and have appeared in numerous films and television series, creating renewed interest in these classics of Spanish design.
Condition: Good condition for a 50-year-old piece. Minor scratches due to age. And slight stains on the lower part of the shade (not visible in use). It has the original diffuser, a part that many units have lost due to breakage or excessive heat deformation.
