The Minerva daybed is one of the most characteristic designs from the golden age of Danish modernism. Designed by the renowned duo Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, this model combines a refined appearance with well-thought-out functionality. The slender solid teak frame, the elegant tapered legs, and the distinctive chrome backrests give the Minerva an open and airy silhouette. Furthermore, the beautifully finished back makes the furniture attractive all around, making it perfectly suited for free-standing placement in the room.
Hvidt & Mølgaard-Nielsen were known for their technically innovative designs in which craftsmanship and simplicity went hand in hand. Their furniture is still praised for its refined detailing, balanced proportions, and timeless design. Production was handled by France & Søn, one of the leading Danish furniture manufacturers of the 1950s and 1960s. The company collaborated exclusively with prominent designers and built an international reputation thanks to the exceptional quality of its materials and finish.
This particular piece is in particularly fine condition. The teak frame has been fully professionally restored in our workshop, carefully preserving its original appearance and character. The upholstery is still entirely original and is in exceptionally neat condition, a rarity for a piece of furniture of this age.
Thanks to its refined design, the Minerva feels effortlessly at home in both modern and classic interiors.
