Kashan was derived from the Persian "kashi," which means "tile." The Kashan rugs look very elegant, with their balanced patterns in floral ornamentation and subtle fullness of ivory/beige and blue contrasting color being very popular in Europe. Entwined flower races often surround a diamond-shaped medallion, and the corners are also richly decorated.
Kashans are exclusively knotted at home. Depending on the quality, the knotting density is between 250,000 and 600,000 knots per square meter.
