He exhibited regularly in Paris since 1958, In 1961, he presented his work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1962 at the Museum of Decorative Arts, at the Pavillon de Marsan of the Louvre Museum. In 1970, with the historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette and the writer Michel Tournier, Lucien Clergue founded the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie which later became the Rencontres d'Arles.
