The rare set of two vintage "Radiohuset" (Danish Radio) sconces was originally designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen and manufactured by Louis Poulsen. Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894-1984) was one of Denmark's most important architects and a leading figure in Danish functionalism. A number of his buildings had a total interior solution - first the Kastrup airport in Copenhagen (1937-39) and then the radiohuset (1936-41), Folkets hus (1953-56) better known today as Vega, the Danish Embassy in Washington (1958-60) - all representing the essence of contemporary life and are today considered priceless monuments of European modernismThe wall sconces with their two hand-blown opal glass shades on a brass frame are in good condition and operational.
