Two small sculptures of light from Sweden. This elegant pair of soliflores was designed in the 1960s by Bo Borgström for Åseda Glasbruk, a Swedish glassworks that became one of the sought-after names in mid-20th century Scandinavian design. Bo Borgström joined Åseda in the early 1960s and helped give the manufacturer a resolutely modern identity. He favored apparently simple silhouettes, but crafted through the thickness of the glass, its color, and optical effects. The two soliflores rest on a thick base of a superb olive green leaning towards chartreuse. Within this mass of glass appear small, perfectly controlled air inclusions, similar to a succession of droplets trapped within the material. The glass then gradually thins out as it rises along the silhouette. The color becomes lighter, almost transparent, before regaining its full presence in the wide, asymmetrical mouth with soft, organic contours. This opening is particularly beautiful. It gives the soliflores an almost vegetal appearance, like two flowers already bloomed even before a stem is placed within them. Finding two identical examples today allows for preserving the decorative intent of the pair and immediately creates a stronger composition than a solitary soliflore. Height approximately 14.5 cm, opening approximately 5 cm. The glass retains a beautiful luster and both pieces are in good condition, with the discreet marks naturally acquired by an object that has passed through more than half a century. Sweden, 1960s.
