Acquire an undisputed icon of 20th-century Italian Rationalist design and mid-century organic craft. Designed by legendary Italian architect and designer Franco Albini in 1950–1951 for Vittorio Bonacina (Bonacina 1889), the "Margherita" armchair is one of the most celebrated achievements in modern furniture history. Awarded the prestigious Gold Medal at the 9th Triennale di Milano (1951) and preserved in permanent museum collections including MoMA in New York and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Margherita transformed traditional basketry and rattan bending into an architectural masterpiece. This rare original pair from the 1950s features a radiant, flower-like flared shell crafted from hand-bent malacca wood and intricately hand-woven Indian cane. Resting on a flared circular pedestal base, the sculptural silhouette offers a light, floating appearance while providing extraordinary structural elasticity and seating ergonomics. Both rattan and malacca frames have undergone a meticulous professional restoration. The natural cane has been cleaned, stabilized, and revitalized to ensure structural integrity while preserving its authentic warm 1950s patina. The original central round seat cushions have been preserved and professionally deep-cleaned and sanitized. They retain their historical integrity while offering hygienic, ready-to-use comfort.
