"Under the Moonlight".
In “Under the Moonlight”, Robert van den Herik creates a serene, surreal world that seems to take place on a deserted planet, far away in the cosmos. A monumental full moon illuminates a desolate landscape of rocky mountain peaks rising above a silvery cloud cover.
On one of the peaks stands a kasbah-like structure, bathed in the soft moonlight. On another peak, a characteristic wooden lamp rises, a sculptural object assembled by the artist himself from various types of wood. Together, they form silent beacons in an otherwise deserted and timeless universe.
The central image is framed by a rich pattern of diamond-shaped planes in subtly muted colors. This geometric framing reinforces the contrast between the stark abstraction of the frame and the dreamy, almost otherworldly atmosphere of the landscape. With this painting, Van den Herik invites the viewer on a journey beyond the boundaries of reality, to a place where silence, space, and imagination come together under the moonlight.
