An exciting work by this Argentinian artist, with vivid colors and a mixed technique.
There appear to be 2 faces with round eyes, united on a blue background, tormented by a red wave.
Carlos Méndez is a contemporary post-war Argentine artist born in Buenos Aires in 1943.
He began exhibiting his work in 1962 in Argentina and since 1973 in Paris, Rome and Mexico.
He studied printmaking in New York and San Francisco, then moved to Catalonia in 1976.
He has exhibited in galleries in Sant Cugat del Vallès and Barcelona, as well as in Colombia, Uruguay, Israel, the United States, Venezuela, France and Germany.
His initially realistic work evolved towards informality as soon as he arrived in Catalonia.
From then on, his paintings were closely linked to Magical Realism, with the presence of ambiguous dreamlike spaces, featuring spectral apparitions of strange characters with undefined faces.
Méndez employs a figuration inherited from the avant-garde at the turn of the century, blending formal distortion with the expressive force of line.
In his own words, it's a "realistic abstraction", with naked forms focused on the theme of the human.
Today, his work can be found in highly relevant public and private collections.
