Painting of a sea lion and a frigatebird. By Britt Kleiberg 1980, Amersfoort. Studio based in Harderwijk. Britt paints animals from all over the world with a story. In the winter of 2017, she began portraits of woodland animals, with this ‘Old Bambi’ being the first in a series of 15 portraits. Bambi is an adult and has antlers. The original drawing was made using PRN, ink, marker, and tea. Later, during the COVID-19 period, she focused extra attention on Dutch birds! She graduated in Graphic Design and Styling before finding her calling in contemporary art. Born into a family with a healthy interest in art, she came into contact with art early on and began painting when she was 10 years old. She enjoyed visiting museums and is grateful for the early education she received. It has provided the background for her current journey as a contemporary artist. Positivity, colors, and freedom to move. The use of color is an important part of her artistic vocabulary: 'Colors make people happy, and I want to bring joy and positivity into the world.' Her color palette can depict an animal's natural environment, hunting, or an emotion, depending on what she wishes to communicate. And however subdued the work may be, the background is part of it. She uses strange little shapes of color to 'fill' her animals. "These represent imaginary continents," she explains, "and can represent the areas where the animal belongs, or where it wants to be. In my artistic world, anything is possible." More work: www.britt-art.nl
