This impressive outdoor artwork was crafted by Renier Natuursteen and pays tribute to the iconic tessellations of M.C. Escher. The design features a seamlessly interlocking pattern of birds and fish, a motif instantly recognizable within the history of graphic art. The sculptural panel is composed of 54 birds and 54 fish, precision-cut from granite using waterjet technology. The elements are polished, sandblasted, and painted on both sides to emphasize the contrast between the light birds and dark fish. The entire piece is mounted in a robust metal frame designed for permanent outdoor installation. The original invoice from 2007, including a mention of the Escher Foundation royalties, is present. The artwork is in excellent structural condition and displays a natural patina befitting prolonged exposure to the elements. The granite parts are intact, and the metal frame provides a solid base.
