Otto Hofmann (1907–1996) was a leading exponent of European abstract art.
Born in Essen, Germany, Hofmann studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau between 1927 and 1930, where he was a direct student of Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. From these masters, he learned the "grammar of forms" and the principle of "inner necessity," which led him to conceive of art as a universal language of signs and colors.
Otto Hofmann. Portfolio of 3 silkscreen prints, 1989 - Sheet 100x75 cm, Plate 51x73 cm
This portfolio represents a refined testimony to the master's abstract research, influenced by his training under masters such as Kandinsky and Klee, but also the synthesis of his poetics: a harmonious balance between the constructivist rigor of the Bauhaus and a poetic sensibility developed through a life of travel and discovery.
This is a series of three sheets of abstract graphics: large-format silkscreen prints on Fabriano watermarked paper.
Hofmann's style in these works plays on the balance of geometric shapes and floating graphic signs against saturated monochromatic backgrounds (blue, gray, and red), maintaining a strong visual musicality typical of his language.
- Signature, edition, and date in pencil, e.g. 8/100
- Fabriano watermark
- Edizioni Valente Arte Contemporanea
- Total edition of 100 + XXX copies
- Certificate of Provenance and Authenticity
