Vintage rugs are unique rugs made from older Turkish and Persian hand-knotted rugs that are at least 20 to 50 years old. The rugs often come from private homes, markets and bazaars and have been carefully selected to be transformed into vintage rugs. Each rug is washed and the pile is cut down in a unique process of colour neutralization that leaves the old pattern of the rug still visible. The rug is then transformed into a completely new rug as it is re-dyed in a new and exciting light, dark or vibrant color. The result is an innovative fusion of traditional rug design with a modern twist. It is important to note that vintage rugs are still very much "alive" and changing and thus may lose some of their original color over time - a characteristic that contributes even more to their uniqueness, charm and vintage style. Another characteristic feature of dyed vintage/patchwork rugs is that these types of rugs lose their original color after a certain period of time, which further enhances the unique vintage look of the rug. Direct sunlight can accelerate this process. We therefore recommend turning the rug from time to time to achieve an even and beautiful effect.
