Oriental sideboard cabinet, lacquered wood and woodcut handles, 20th century – Japan. Exquisite 20th-century Japanese sideboard or cabinet, lacquered in black. A highly sophisticated piece of furniture that, in addition to being functional, reflects the cultural symbolism linked to Japanese aesthetics, where utility and beauty are inseparable. High-end Japanese furniture was often lacquered; therefore, this finish is a symbol of tradition and gives the piece an elegant and refined finish, in addition to preserving and strengthening the material. The saber legs, reminiscent of a Japanese sword, give the sideboard a greater sense of lightness, lending the piece a modern touch without neglecting its tradition. The curves and geometry of the legs contrast subtly with the straight, linear details of the sideboard's upper structure, reinforcing the sense of harmony. This type of leg carries a symbolic meaning related to elegance, discipline, and Japanese tradition.
