Beautiful and rare orange and dark brown fat lava vase, made of glazed earthenware, by Walter Gerhards KG, West Germany ceramics from the late 1950s, early 1960s.
Walter Gerhards KG was founded in 1957 (and registered in 1959) in Ransbach-Baumbach by Walter Gerhards and his wife Elfriede Gerhards. Gerhards vases are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of West Germany ceramics.
This vase is in very good condition, with no cracks, breaks, or chips. There are a few imperfections in the glaze on both sides at the bottom of the vase; the white spots you see are actually not stains but remnants of the glaze, so the ‘white spots’ were fired into the vase.
Almost every West Germany vase has its imperfections because they were produced on a large scale, either in the glaze or in the shape. Generally, this is not considered damage, but rather characteristic of West Germany ceramics. Dimensions: 15x12x26cm.
Weight: 1.268kg.
