Man, animal and pattern are the most recurring elements in Nicola Rozemeijer's work. (Utrecht) The visual outer world influences her inner world and returns mixed up on the canvas. She paints animals and people in such a way that it seems as if they are hardly aware of what is happening outside them. Concentrated or, on the contrary, dreamy, they reside in a fictitious or, for the viewer, unreachable world. The backgrounds that are sometimes a schematic representation of an environment or sometimes consist only of patterns emphasize this "fantastic" world. The representations or portraits look like a representation of reality but are not. It is not a record of one's own experience, it is not a commentary, there is no truth. They are imaginary scenes as if they were stills from a larger story. A moment from the lives of others. What exactly takes place there we do not know any more than we know who we are dealing with.
