This is the iconic George Nelson Cigar Crisscross pendant lamp, produced by Herman Miller. The 1952 design is an absolute classic of Mid-Century Modern design and is known for its soft, diffuse light distribution and organic shape.
The lamp is constructed from a visible steel wire frame over which a white polymer coating has been sprayed, an innovative technique that Nelson introduced at the time. The crisscross pattern in the structure gives the shade extra texture and depth. The pendant lamp features a brushed steel ceiling plate, and the original Herman Miller brand stickers are present on the inside of the fixture.
The entire piece is in very neat condition, retaining the original finish and structure. The polymer shade is intact, and the steel frame shows no defects.
This pendant lamp comes into its own above a dining table, in a hallway, or as an atmospheric centerpiece in a living room. The timeless design combines effortlessly with both vintage and contemporary interiors.
