Mundus existed from 1907 to approximately 1938, from 1921 as a merger partner with Thonet.
The organizational structure of Thonet has undergone several changes since its founding in 1853, including a merger with Mundus, a Viennese company founded in 1907 by Leopold Pilzer of Rudolf Weill & Co. Mundus was a limited liability company consisting of several small cabinetmakers who produced bentwood furniture. The merger between Thonet and Mundus took place in the early 20th century, after Mundus became a majority shareholder in J. & J. Kohn. The merger led to the founding of Thonet-Mundus in 1922.
