architectural lounge design | sculptural minimalism
The Japanese-looking “Paper Planes” armchair is a design by DOSHI LEVIEN (Nipa Doshi & Jonathan Levien London) for the Italian MOROSO.
Executed in light yellow / sand-colored upholstery on a slender black metal base.
A design from 2010 in which Moroso established itself as one of the most experimental and culturally layered Italian design brands. Still available to purchase new in various configurations.
This is the HIGH BACK version in Hallingdal upholstery in excellent condition.
The chair references folded paper and origami: the seat shell appears to be constructed from a single continuous plane that is under tension between graphic lines and comfortable volume. From some angles, the object looks almost as if it originated from a single folding movement.
sleek geometry...soft upholstery...architectural lines...and an almost floating lightness
visually very strong but also very comfortable due to the generous dimensions. Beautifully suited for minimalist, tonal, or gallery-style interiors where sculptural tranquility is more important than decorative excess. Perfect for sinking into with a book or gazing out over the landscape.
An armchair that appears folded rather than built, looks almost two-dimensional from some angles, and the slender black frame makes the chair almost float in space.
