Beautiful kokeshi by Usaburo. Traditional kokeshi are purely decorative or toys, but this variant has a hollowed-out "bowl" in the body where, for example, toothpicks or pens can be stored. This is an original model by the master Okamoto Usaburo (1917 - 2009) from the 1970s. The wood grain of this kimono is beautifully decorated. Usaburo began his artistic career creating industrial metal artworks and subsequently approached the Kokeshi tradition in 1950. He is considered one of the most important masters of this tradition, particularly famous for introducing new styles and decoration techniques that contributed to the birth of the so-called "creative" kokeshi, detached from a figurative point of view compared to the "traditional" ones. During his career, he received numerous awards, including the prestigious Premier's Award. The height is 11 cm; it is signed and stamped by the maker. For the condition, please view the photos. Please note: Kokeshi dolls are not new, so there will always be scratches, discoloration, and/or cracks to a greater or lesser extent.
