Exceptional and representative French Art Deco study from around 1930, consisting of a very large freestanding crescent desk and a matching cabinet. The ensemble impresses above all with its unusual proportions and strong spatial effect. The desk measures approximately 190 cm in width and 80 cm in depth and is designed as a generous crescent or bow desk. Due to its shape, it is expressly suitable for being placed freely in the room, where it develops its full representative effect. The widely projecting worktop and the two massive side bodies give the desk an almost architectural presence. The lively, high-contrast grain of the Makassar veneer extends over the large tabletop and the bodies and is further emphasized by dark contrasting frames and bases. The accompanying cabinet adopts the same design language and forms a cohesive, harmonious ensemble with the desk. Two side cabinet sections flank a central glazed compartment with shelves; below these are two drawers. Material, proportions, fittings, and the characteristic lines clearly show that both pieces of furniture were conceived as a coherent study. It is precisely the combination of a very large crescent desk, a matching cabinet, strongly figured Makassar veneer, and the overall representative effect that makes this ensemble special. It is not an ordinary Art Deco office furniture, but a large-format interior for a spacious study, library, or reception room. The ensemble originates from Alsace and is in age-appropriate condition. A professional restoration and refurbishment of the surfaces will further significantly emphasize the depth and effect of the Makassar veneer.
