Product description
Serving cart designed by Georges Frydman for Meubles EFA (Equipment Fonctionnel de l'Habitation), documented in La Maison Française no. 120, August/September 1958 — where it is described as "a serving cart with a movable top upholstered in Formica," photographed in a complete EFA interior alongside a bridge table and chairs upholstered in Dunlopillo. EFA was the company he founded in 1954 with the painter Louis Solères, inspired by Le Corbusier and praised by André Bloc in L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui. In 1966, Frydman received the Prix René Gabriel, awarded to designers of modern, mass-produced furniture that combined quality and affordability. The piece is numbered under its base — an EFA authenticity mark characteristic of the company's production. It rests on four brass-flange casters, moves with ease, and perfectly embodies Frydman's philosophy: furniture designed for everyday use, mobile, rational, and free of superfluous ornamentation. The frame is made of gunmetal-lacquered square tubing, making it lightweight yet sturdy. The oak top is protected by a white Formica panel and is easily removed thanks to its gold handles. The serving cart functions equally well as a side table, a discreet bar, or a mobile side table in the center of a living room. Complete restoration carried out with respect for the original materials: sanding, repainting in gunmetal, replacement of damaged Formica, refinishing of the wood varnish, and filling of a missing piece. Materials: Gunmetal-lacquered metal · Oak top · White Formica · Brass-flange casters Edition: EFA (Equipment for Functional Living) · Numbered · France, c. 1958. Condition: Very good condition · Respectful and complete restoration · Original numbered piece. Award: René Gabriel Prize 1966 · Praised by L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui Pamono. Suits for a mid-century, modernist, or contemporary interior. Equally at home in a living room, open-plan kitchen, or office.
