Swedish armchair model “244” designed by Axel Larsson for Bodafors in the late 1940s, crafted in beech and teak.
Armchair model “244” designed by Axel Larsson for Bodafors in 1947, during the transitional period when the designer helped move Swedish furniture from the Nordic Classicism of the 1930s toward the cleaner language of Scandinavian modernism. The frame is crafted in beech, while the seat and backrest are made of shaped teak, a typical combination in Nordic furniture of the period that balances structural strength with refined visual quality. Particularly notable are the laminated armrest ends, a construction detail rooted in Swedish cabinetmaking tradition that highlights the craftsmanship associated with Bodafors production. Model “244” clearly reflects Larsson’s design philosophy, based on functionality, restrained elegance and refined woodworking solutions.
