Product description
A playful and highly sculptural design that blurs the boundary between furniture and art object. Designed by Judith de Graauw for Montis, the Miss Judith stool is characterized by its soft, organic silhouette and anthropomorphic appearance, giving it a distinctive personality rarely found in contemporary seating.
Fully upholstered in high-quality leather, the stool is formed from a series of flowing volumes that merge into a single sculptural shape. The absence of visible structural elements emphasizes the fluidity of the design, while the contrasting piping accentuates its expressive contours. Functional as a stool, occasional seat or footrest, Miss Judith is equally compelling as a standalone sculptural object.
Its playful form reflects the experimental spirit of Dutch design in the early 2000s, where functionality and artistic expression increasingly became intertwined. Viewed from different angles, the piece continually reveals new silhouettes, making it an engaging presence in both residential and public interiors.
About the designer
Judith de Graauw is a Dutch designer known for her experimental and expressive approach to furniture design. Her work often explores the relationship between object and character, creating pieces that evoke emotion and interaction. The Miss Judith stool, produced by Montis, remains one of her most recognizable designs and exemplifies the playful spirit of contemporary Dutch design.
Produced in a limited series of only 140 examples, the Miss Judith stool is a rare design. Eighty pieces were commissioned for a prestigious project in Dubai, leaving relatively few examples available on the market. The design was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and forms part of its permanent design collection, underscoring its significance within contemporary Dutch design.
