Gerrit Rietveld | 1923
The Military stool by Gerrit Rietveld is part of the Military furniture series that Rietveld designed in 1923 for the Catholic Military Home in Utrecht. In this series, he used bolts and nuts instead of wooden dowels for the first time for the wood joints. As a result, the military furniture is very sturdy. The furniture, characterized by the use of square sleepers, is executed in various colors, with the ends painted in a contrasting color.
In addition to the Military stool, the Military chair and the Military table are also available. The furniture in the Military series is available in various color schemes. The seats of the stools are made of oak veneered plywood painted whitewash, white, black or red. The base whose ends are finished with a contrasting color is available in white, black or red or gray.
