A rare design classic by Hvidt & Mølgaard-Nielsen for Søborg Møbler
This exceptional midcentury piece of furniture was designed by the renowned Danish designers Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, who, as a duo, significantly shaped Scandinavian modernism. Their designs combine the highest craftsmanship with a clear design language and sophisticated functionality.
Manufactured by the Danish manufacturer Søborg Møbler in the early 1970s, the combination consists of a deeper base cabinet, which stands on a sturdy original base, and a shallower top shelf. Both cabinets are made of solid teak, with high-quality dovetailed edges.
The base cabinet features two hinged doors, which are attached with visible, high-quality hinges and can be opened using two organically shaped recessed handles and a key. Inside, there are three shallow drawers with elegantly crafted cutouts and an adjustable shelf for flexible use. The attached shelf offers three additional, adjustable shelves and is ideal for books, dishes, or decorative objects.
The cabinet combination is in very good condition. A small scratch on the left door and a minimal dent on the top of the base cabinet are the only visible signs of wear and tear after our refurbishment.
A rare, excellently preserved original from the early 1970s (documented with invoices) that perfectly combines Danish design, quality, and functionality.
