Product description
This set of four armchairs, designed by Arne Norell and manufactured by Coja in Sweden in the 1960s, is a prime example of Scandinavian design, which has successfully transcended Swedish borders and found acclaim throughout Europe. This model stands out for its distinctive combination of a solid wooden structure and soft, generous cushions, creating a piece of exceptionally comfortable furniture. This design reflects a mid-century modern aesthetic with clear influences from Scandinavian functionalism – simple, timeless, and devoid of unnecessary embellishments. The structure is made of solid oak, whose warm tone perfectly complements the natural brown leather upholstery. The wooden frame underwent a meticulous and professional restoration, involving the removal of old coatings, staining, and a varnish finish. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. A distinctive detail is the leather straps - a key aesthetic element of the design. The quilted cushions are made of natural brown leather and are in very good original condition. The greatest advantage of this model is its comfort. The deep seat, wide armrests, and generous cushions provide comfort that encourages extended relaxation. At the same time, the open wooden structure means that, despite its massive character, the armchair doesn't overwhelm the interior and maintains a visual lightness. This piece of furniture will look equally at home in a living room decorated in a vintage style or in a contemporary space, where it will become a distinctive yet natural element. Arne Norell (1917–1971) was one of the most prominent Swedish furniture designers of the 20th century. He became famous for creating exceptionally comfortable armchairs and sofas, combining solid wood with natural leather and canvas. His designs are characterized by thoughtful construction, high-quality craftsmanship, and a timeless aesthetic. Many Arne Norell models, such as the Ari, Sirocco, and Ilona, remain icons of Scandinavian design to this day. Coja was a Belgian upholstered furniture manufacturer that produced licensed designs by renowned Scandinavian designers in the 1960s and 1970s. Thanks to their high-quality craftsmanship and collaborations with designers such as Arne Norell, Coja furniture has gained a reputation in the European market and is now prized by vintage collectors. One of the armchairs is missing the small cushion between the backrest and the seat.
