A rare and exceptionally high-end mid-century modern mechanical smoker's companion box/dispenser. Crafted in Italy between 1944 and 1968, this luxury table accessory combines exquisite Italian silversmithing with an ingenious, fully functional mechanical pop-up system.When the hinged lid is lifted, an internal brass scissor-linkage seamlessly raises a four-quadrant wooden divider tray, lifting cigarettes or short cigarillos upwards for easy selection.Unlike standard vintage humidors that feature decoration only on the front, this premium presentation piece is uniquely finished on all four sides with thick, high-purity solid 800 continental silver plates.
Front Plate: Features the word "Tabacco" crisply rendered in a striking Gothic blackletter font.
Side & Back Plates: Beautifully detailed with acid-etched Neo-Renaissance "Grotesque" artwork, showcasing central winged cherub (putto) figures, symmetrical botanical scrollwork, and mythical winged chimeras/griffins.
Lid Detail: The top features an inlaid Art Nouveau floral-scroll metal disc crowned with a dark sculpted finial handle.
Body & Trim: Constructed from elegantly stained, delicate hardwood paneling, tightly framed by a decorative border of matching wooden bead trim.
