Product description
Mid-century, vintage sideboard, circa 1950's.
The piece is made of ash wood and mahogany, and rests on tapered legs.
Piece has been acquired from its original owner, who ordered the sideboard to be "custom made", by a woodworker artisan, in 1959.
The top is made of solid ash wood. The drawers and sliding doors of the storage compartment space, have an ash wood veneered finish.
The large storage compartment has a removable shelf with green edging, and its two sliding doors, both have an arrow-shaped, marquetry design pattern (see photos.)
There are four, chamfered drawers, that are fully functional and have their original, green handles made of bakelite, brass and zamak (see photos.) Both the 1st and 3rd drawers have a horizontal design pattern, and the 2nd and 4th drawers, have a vertical design pattern (see photos.)
The two side panels have a sleek, elegant, shark fin design, and are made of mahogany (see photos.)
The sideboard is in overall very good, original and vintage condition, with some light marks, signs of age, and previous use commensurate with time, as well as a patina of time, as is expected for a piece of its age, on the top, side panels, edging, drawers, inside of drawers and compartment, sliding doors, handles, shelf, inside of the drawers and legs (see photos.) Some light, old signs of age and previous use on the inside of the drawers and storage compartment (see photos.) A patina of age and time, as well some small areas of faded color/ discoloration on the left side panel (see photos.) Some old repairs of veneer, on the upper edging of the side panels, and bottom rear, of the left side panel (see photo.) An old repair, at the lower left angle of the top drawer (see photo.)
The top of the piece has been refinished, and the entire sideboard, has been cleaned, oiled, and waxed. It is solid and stable.
