Exceptional and rare textile artwork titled 'Africa', attributed to the Dutch textile artist Maud Muller Massis (1924-).
This expressive wall object is executed in various types of textiles and materials, with a combination of appliqués, embroidery, cords, and decorative elements.
The composition depicts a stylized, almost mask-shaped face and is a beautiful example of Dutch fiber art and textile art from the second half of the twentieth century.

About the artist
Maud Muller Massis was born on Java in 1924 and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the late 1950s. Later, she lived and worked in Wassenaar and taught courses in crafts and textile techniques in the 1970s.
Work by Maud Muller Massis is held in the collection of Museum De Wieger. Her oeuvre was also included in the exhibition 'Draadkrachtig'. 'Weaving and Embroidery Art 1920-1970'.

According to correspondence with curator Katjuscha Otte of Museum De Wieger, the style, materials used, and method of hanging are recognizable as fitting within the oeuvre of Maud Muller Massis.
