Characteristic, understated composition by the Irish artist Mary Alacoque Waters, who lives in both Ireland (Galway) and the Netherlands (Utrecht). Oil on canvas, signed and dated on the back (2006), on a sleek aluminium stretcher frame. Painted over the edge, so it can/must be hung on the wall as is. In very good condition. Gallery price: 7,500 euros.
Dimensions: 60cm x 50cm
Mary Alacoque Waters paints portraits and still lifes in oil on canvas in the style of the old masters of the seventeenth century. Nevertheless, her art is anything but a copy: on the contrary, it is convincing proof that good art is unrepeatable. Her gaze is not that of Vermeer, her models have a different look, they move differently than the Girl with the Pearl Earring or the Woman Reading a Letter. One thing has remained the same: what we see are beautiful, successful people and the objects with which they prefer to surround themselves.
