Provenance
This work comes directly from the studio of Marie Louise Ogier, dispersed at the request of her family. It belongs to a group of unpublished, intimate works, including portraits, landscapes and an exceptional selection of her famous bouquets of flowers.
Kept for several decades in the family home, these watercolors and oils testify to a more intimate side of his creation. They are distinguished by their freshness, spontaneity and rarity on the market.
Description of the work
This tender, poetic watercolor, entitled Enfants cueillant des fleurs, depicts two young children in a verdant garden. One, seated in the grass, is holding flowers in his arms, while the other, standing in a blue dress, is holding a small bouquet of freshly picked flowers.
The soft palette, dominated by luminous greens and touches of pink and blue, lends the scene an atmosphere of freshness and innocence. The lightness of the washes, the transparency of the colors and the delicacy of the brushstrokes aptly convey Marie Louise Ogier's sensitivity.
This work illustrates a more intimate facet of her art: beyond the bouquets that have made her famous, Ogier captures here the grace of childhood and the beauty of simple moments, in an approach that is both delicate and poetic.
Biography of Marie Louise Ogier
Marie Louise Ogier (1912-2003) was a French painter whose refined, luminous work left its mark on the twentieth-century art scene. Renowned for her delicate, poetic figurative style, she established herself as a key figure with her signature floral compositions.
Trained by Lévy-Dhurmer and then Othon Friesz at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, she developed a unique pictorial language, combining classical rigor and modern freedom. From the 1950s onwards, she exhibited regularly at the major Parisian art shows (Salon de Paris, Salon d'Automne, Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, etc.) and became a member of several prestigious institutions.
Her bouquets of flowers, whether painted in oil or watercolor, transfigure nature with a vibrant palette and poetic composition. Her success quickly spread beyond France, particularly to the United States, where her works found their way into prestigious private collections.
Marie Louise Ogier died in Paris in 2003 and is buried in Père-Lachaise. She leaves behind a rich and timeless artistic legacy, transmitted through her luminous and sensitive canvases and watercolors.
