Marcel was educated at the HKU in Utrecht. Marcel makes abstract expressionist paintings on canvas or paper with acrylic, water and oil paint. Statement: 'As a painter you can talk through your paintings. You can convey a story or generate emotions through images. For me, paint, brushes and canvas, among other things, are just tools to evoke these emotions or stories and bring them to life. When I paint, my mind, so to speak, directs these tools to the end result. When I am in a painter's 'flow', I slowly build up this emotion with the story and project it onto the canvas or other medium. At that moment my brain transmits something that concerns me. Of course I start a painting with a certain thought, but that can change during the course of the process into something unexpected that will (strongly) dominate. I will always embrace that process and allow it to happen. The final image I create will not be an accurate figurative construction of this emotion or story, but rather an abstract representation of it. It will have to do with something that concerns me at that moment, at that time, in that period. It looks like a dream translated into paint on canvas with brushes and other tools. I am immensely fascinated by the similarity between macro and micro structures in nature and how these can also correspond to structures unconsciously created by humans. Here too, humans are part of nature. If we as humans realize better that we are nature, I hope that we, as 'companions', will treat it with more respect. I would like these emotions to be expressed in cheerful and/or aesthetically beautiful paintings. I am a positive person and the result can simply be enjoyed purely.
