Description
Marcel Breuer created this iconic armchair in 1928. A distinctive stylistic element of this Bauhaus classic is the S-curve in the upper part of the chair. It is constructed according to the principle of "curve-swing-counter-swing," in which all the curves of the tubular steel find their counterparts. The technique harmoniously combines dynamism and lightness.
Breuer, then head of the furniture workshop at the Bauhaus in Dessau, immigrated to the USA in 1933 due to his Jewish heritage. There, he founded the architecture department at Harvard University together with Walter Gropius and became one of the world's most renowned architects of his generation.
The rattan weave has some minor damage.
